AMITABH BACHCHAN

                                                                     

Many sons of our motherland have bought fame to our country. It is Amitabh Bachchan who raised our nation’s name high up on the map of World’s cinema.

Amitabh was born on 11^th October 1942 in Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh. He is the son of renowned poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan and Teji Bachchan . He studied at the Sherwood boarding school of Nainitlal and did his college studies at Delhi University. 

He acted in theatre; he was also a radio announcer. Later he worked as an executive in a shipping company at Culcutta. As he was always interested in acting, he decided to try his luck in cinema. Director K A Abbas gave him his first break in ‘Saat Hindustani’. Later his acting talent was appreciated in ‘Anand’ and ‘Namakharam’, opposite then phenomenon Rajesh Khanna. Then film ‘ Zanjeer ‘ made him famous as the ‘ Angry young man‘. This was followed by many more super hit films.

Amitabh married Jaya Bhaduri  a very talented actress . They have two children, Shweta and Abhishek. In 1983, while shooting for a movie ‘Coolie’, he had a near fatal accident. Because of his close association with prime mister Indira Gandhi’s son Rajiv Gandhi, he entered politics and was elected to the Parliament from his hometown Allahabad. But he soon left politics due to controversies.

He launched Amitabh Bachchan Corporation Limited ABCL, which was involved in all the aspects of cinema industry. During the 90s he had to face a lot of difficulties on personal as well as professional fronts. But he bounced back with the television quiz show ‘Kaun Banega crorepati‘. Then there was no looking back.

The Indian government has honoured him with Padma Shri . BBC News poll announced him as an ‘Actor of millennium‘. He is the first Asian actor whose wax model displayed at Madame Tussaud’s Museum in London.
