Oxo-biodegradable plastic garbage bags are quite
indistinguishable from ordinary plastic bags but breaks up into thin fragments
when left out in the open, in the presence of oxygen , within a short span of
around 3 months. These fragments are totally consumed by bacteria and fungi
releasing carbon dioxide, water and humus, a natural fertilizer. In contrast,
an ordinary bag remains inert, for as many as 400 years.
